Information about Jerome:
Once a mining town of 15,000, Jerome has approximately 329 full time residents. Tourism is Jerome's major support and over 300,000 visit this mountainside town annually, located on the historic Highway 89A in Arizona.
In 1967, the town of Jerome was declared a National Historic Landmark with the Jerome Grand Hotel as the largest structure. Many of the buildings have been preserved and restored and are now providing the many services needed for the tourist trade.
With the official closing of the last mine in 1953, Jerome's population dwindled down to between 50 and 100 residents. Jerome was listed as America's largest ghost town during the late 1950's.
Jerome is located 2 hours from Phoenix, on the West side of the Verde Valley, and is near Sedona and Prescott. Cottonwood is only 15 minutes away at the base of Mingus Mountain.
